Many individuals have helped with the Conference, both with their personal time and helpful suggestions and also by generous sponsorship. Until recently, it has been a shoe-string operation, surviving only because I managed to cajole family and friends into serving tea and coffee etc. Many fine speakers have travelled from great distances (Australia, USA, France, Canada, Germany and Russia) without any funding to contribute to the Conference. Recently, however, we have been able to pay for flights for some speakers. In the past we have received sponsorship from The London School of Economics, The Institute for Humane Studies, The Open Society Institute (Chairman: Mr. Soros), Routledge, Securicor and The Karl Popper Memorial Fund (LSE). I would like to extend a special thank you to Mr and Mrs Mew for their continuing support of the Conference.
