Dr. Milan Jira

Dr. Milan Jira is an Associate Professor at Charles University Medical School in Prague. He graduated at the Medical School in 1975 and started to work as a physician outside the Czech capital. He joined the academic community of Charles University in 1981 and wrote his Ph.D. thesis on the etiology of certain diseases. He has published more then 80 scientific articles in Czech and English. He was strongly influenced by the "Velvet Revolution" in 1989. His promotion was strongly influenced by the visit of Sir Karl Popper to Prague in 1994. Charles University (est. 1348), represented by Prof. Cyril Hoeschl, the Dean of the Medical Faculty had been honoured by the visit of Sir Karl Popper. On this occasion, Sir Karl Popper, deeply respected by the academic community of Charles University, received the highest honorary title of the university - "doctor honoris causa".
